Biography

Dr. Michael D. McMurtrey is a materials scientist at Idaho National Laboratory with a research focus on qualification of Alloy 617 time-dependent deformation properties for use in high-temperature nuclear reactors, also in analysis of creep-fatigue results for alloys 709 and grade 92 FM steel. He earned his doctorate in nuclear engineering from University of Michigan and his bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University. His postdoctoral research was with Dr. James Burns at the University of Virginia’s Center for Electromechanical Science and Engineering. His honors include an Innovations in Fuel Cycle Research Award, first place in open competition for advanced materials (2011), and the INL top nuclear materials presentation at the American Nuclear Society 2010 Student Conference.
