Abstract

A neutron diffraction investigation is made of the structure of amorphous alloy (AA) Re90Ta10 obtained by ion-plasma sputtering. The RDF is recovered from data on the structure factor, both with the traditional method of inverting the Fourier transformation and with regularizing algorithms. It is shown that the results can be interpreted satisfactorily in the framework of the model of pseudorandom packing of hard spheres. The conclusion that the given AA and the Re90Ta10 intermetallic compound with α-Mn structure are similar could be due to features of the method used to obtain the AA.
