Abstract
As the prevalence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices increases, concerns involving user data collection and penetration points fuels a demand for evaluative processes / standards. This research surveys an array of smart home IoT devices to discover common trends and vulnerabilities. A Critical Product Evaluation (CPE) type process is adopted in performing this analysis which requires device teardown, reference sheet collection, firmware collection, firmware analysis, vulnerability discovery, etc. While incomplete, future work with this project will include further in-depth analysis and a greater sample size.
