Abstract

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) owns over 90 different types of spent nuclear fuel (SNF), having a range of 235U enrichments, sizes, and cladding materials. The SNF is stored in basins and dry storage facilities at a number of different sites. The Integrated Spent Nuclear Fuel Systems Model, currently under development, is a dynamic system simulation model of the DOE SNF complex. The model is a planning tool designed to facilitate the development and assessment of SNF management strategies. This paper discusses the current status of the model, shows the results of typical analyses, and draws appropriate conclusions.
