Abstract

The development of cellulosic feedstocks for biofuels and other bioproducts must be accomplished in an economically viable, environmentally benign, and socially sustainable manner. This task is feasible throughout the world, as illustrated in this chapter. The chapter discusses production of cellulosic ethanol in Brazil, cellulosic bioenergy in China and bioenergy in India. Each example is further discussed in detail by covering the issues of feedstocks, commercialization and government policies.
