Abstract

The Rancor Microworld is a digital simulation of a nuclear power plant designed for human factors research to support the modernization of the control room. It provides a simplified simulation environment, with sufficient fidelity to generalize to real-world settings, that enables manipulation and experimental control. The simulation allows for multi-unit operations and fault simulation and supports eye tracking for capturing attention patterns. The Rancor Microworld has been validated on different populations of varying expertise. It is the only nuclear process control microworld that supports experimentation and is reconfigurable for university and lab-based research.
