Abstract

A neutron vibrational spectroscopy (NVS) method was proposed for the quantitative determination of metal hydrides in nuclear materials. The NVS method is based on the incoherent inelastic scattering of neutrons from molecular or lattice vibrations. It was observed that NVS can be used to measure the concentration of a variety of hydrides, the analysis of which by traditional methods of optical spectroscopy is often difficult.
