Abstract

The striped-to-hexagonal charge-density-wave transition in 2H-TaSe2 is almost independent of pressure up to P=4.4 GPa. Small uniaxial stresses in the basal plane lead to domain orientation and greatly reduce the hysteresis in the transition. These results are more consistent with theoretical models of Rice which include interlayer coupling than with the models of Bak et al.
