Powering Carbon Negative Solutions

Research output: Contribution to conferencePoster

Abstract

The world needs carbon negative technology as it can offset difficult to decarbonize emissions. Direct Air Capture (DAC) offers a carbon negative solution; however, it is energy intensive and deploying the technology at an impactful scale will require the substantial expansion of energy resources. This poster examines the energy requirements and emissions rates of various power supplies to identify optimal sources. It finds nuclear power, specifically advanced microreactors, to be an ideal thermal energy source for DAC systems based on efficiency and capacity to enable gigaton-scale deployment.
