N2 - Small modular reactors (SMRs) require a smaller physical footprint than conventional large nuclear reactors while still providing high reliability in power generation and they are frequently discussed in the context of providing power for data centers. Molten chloride reactors represent a new type of SMR where a mixture of molten chloride and uranium serves as both reactor fuel and coolant. The approach is key to molten chloride fast reactor technologies being marketed commercially in SMRs for end users like data centers. This work leverages the open-source Multiphysics Object Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE) framework to simulate the behavior of a molten salt SMR with the control rods at 60% open exploring steady state behavior of an SMR while operating below maximum capacity to power a data center with a mismatched power rating.
