N2 - Acrylic acid is one of the fastest growing commodity chemicals, with worldwide demand growing at a rate of 4 percent annually. It is commercially produced from propylene which in turn is derived from capital and energy-intensive steam crackers. This paper will present novel processes for the conversion of propane to acrylic acid either directly or via a propylene intermediate in a millisecond reactor. The proposed processes will operate catalytically and auto-thermally under oxidative dehydrogenation conditions, offering favorable Economic, Energy and Environmental (E3) benefits.
