Abstract
Characteristic secondary ions can be observed if volatile amines are introduced into a secondary ion source in which a glycerol matrix is under ion bombardment. The abundance of these secondary ions relative to the abundance of the protonated glycerol ion has been found to follow the same trends observed for involatile analytes dissolved in glycerol; namely, longer chain amines yield more abundant secondary ions than do shorter chain amines. Therefore, surface activity is an important factor in determining the secondary ion abundance.
