Development of Mechanical Testing Capability for HFEF

This report depicts the development of mechanical testing capability for ATF fuels at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). An aim of the study is to demonstrate the pathway of defueling an irradiated cladding segment, machining of segments into specimens with unique tensile geometries, and mechanical testing using INL’s facilities. The report consists of three parts: 1) defueling of a fuel segment, 2) mechanical test specimen machining, and 3) mechanical test demonstration.
