N2 - The authors regret any misunderstanding resulting from the strain maps shown in Figure 1. This map shows the diameter measurements taken during PIE divided by the initial diameter of the cladding tubing (d0). As mentioned in the methods of section 2.3.1 on profilometry, the value of d0 used is the average value of the cladding tube. To clarify the misunderstanding, the average value was used as it was not practical to take specific diameter measurements prior to irradiation and track those to measurements taken post irradiation. This is also why profilometry measurements are again presented in Figure 7 with the error bars representing the variation in measurements.
