The present invention relates to alkane oxidation/dehydrogenation catalysts and processes for converting alkanes and oxygen to dehydrogenated products and/or oxygenated products at flame temperatures. More particu larly, the present invention is directed to catalyst Systems for converting specific alkanes to their corresponding alkenes and oxygenates including unsaturated carboxylic acids, Satu rated carboxylic acids, esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids and their respective higher analogues in a short contact time reactor at flame temperatures, to a method for making the catalyst Systems, and to a process for the gas phase catalytic oxidation of alkanes using the catalyst Systems.
