Abstract

Because nuclear power plants are safety regulated, new control room design or control room modernization requires verification and validation (V&V) of operator performance. The available measures of operator performance are extensive, which may compel the human factors researcher to enlist a veritable textbook of measures to ensure all facets of performance are adequately addressed. There are challenges in such extensive V&V, including collecting definitive performance data from a single late-stage validation study and the resources required to collect and analyze the myriad measures. This paper illustrates a simplified approach to V&V based on discount usability.
