Abstract
INL’s Information Expression: Discover Tools (IX-Tools) includes a utility to output a Structured Threat Intelligence eXpression (STIX) bundle from a network packet capture (pcap) file. However, it only supports the wired internet protocol stack (Ethernet/TCP/IP). We want to analyze a mesh network home automation system that runs over IEEE 802.11 (WiFi) and IEEE 802.15.4 (low-rate wireless personal area network) wireless protocols, not Ethernet. To this end, we extend the capabilities of IX-Tools to support wireless protocols so that home automation networks can be analyzed for abnormal traffic patterns.
