The Arthur J. Schmitt Scholarship Leadership Fellowship identifies talented Marquette doctoral students and fosters their development as socially responsible leaders in the Marquette community and beyond. One of the goals of the fellowship is to further students' formation as leaders working for positive social change in the spirit of Marquette University and Arthur J. Schmitt. This vision is accomplished through supporting their doctoral studies and promoting leadership development and opportunities.

Through the generous support of the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation and the contributions of many individuals to this vision, for more than 50 years, 473 awards have funded 390 students in 15 doctoral programs. Through this support, Schmitt fellows impact the Academy and industry as scientists, scholars, pastors, writers, academic leaders, and clinicians.

The Arthur J. Schmitt Leadership Fellowships are awarded to eight to 10 students in doctoral programs each year. Each fellowship carries a ten-month stipend and a scholarship that pays for continuous enrollment fees.
