Biography

Tao Liu, Ph.D., serves as a Probabilistic Risk and Reliability Analyst at Idaho National Laboratory, with a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University. His work focuses on probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), thermal-hydraulic analysis, and safety analysis of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) and research reactors. In his role at Idaho National Laboratory, Dr. Liu contributes to various Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) projects. These include Computational Support for Risk Applications, Reactor Operating Experience Data for Risk Applications, and studies on Digital Instrument and Control.

 

Prior to joining the Idaho National Laboratory, Dr. Liu accrued six years of experience at a nuclear engineering company, where he was trained as a Control Room Simulator Instructor for PWRs. His role involved projects in human factor engineering (HFE) and the development of digital training platforms for nuclear power plants.

 

Dr. Liu’s contributions to the field have been acknowledged with awards such as the Best Paper Award at the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Student Conference and the Best Presentation Award (North America) at the International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE). He is an active member of the ANS and has previously served as a Technical Track Co-manager at the International Youth Nuclear Congress.
