Biography
Dr. Sunming Qin is a Research Scientist in the Department of Reactor Systems and Heat Transport at INL. Prior to joining INL, he earned his Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2020. He also received dual bachelor’s degrees in both Nuclear Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, respectively, in 2015.
Dr. Qin's research focuses on nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics, novel heat delivery and thermal energy storage system concepts, and the advancement of advanced reactor technologies, including gas-cooled, molten-salt-cooled, liquid-metal-cooled, and heat-pipe-cooled micro-reactors. At INL, his work supports multiple U.S. DOE Programs, such as Advanced Reactor Technologies – Gas Cooled Reactors (ART-GCR), Integrated Energy Systems (IES), Microreactor Program (MRP), Systems Analysis and Integration (SA&I) and Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Program. In addition, he has served as Chair of the HTGR Focus Group within the IAEA International Network for Experiments and Code Validation Sharing (NEXSHARE) forum.
