Biography

Dr. Sarah Creasman is a Nuclear Engineer at Idaho National Laboratory, where she specializes in advanced reactor technologies, integrated energy systems, and balance‑of‑plant modeling. Her expertise includes molten salt reactors and nuclear-industrial process integration.

Prior to joining INL as a postdoctoral researcher in 2023, Sarah earned her Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee, where her doctoral research applied the Modelica‑based TRANSFORM library assess how uncertainties in molten‑salt thermophysical properties affect core temperatures and safety margins. She also holds graduate certificates in Nuclear Security Science and Analysis and Fire Protection Engineering.

At INL, she focuses on MSR source terms and species tracking using MOOSE‑based tools, integrating NEAMS codes such as Griffin (neutronics/depletion) and Pronghorn (thermal‑hydraulics and transport) for Multiphysics, multiscale coupling.

Her contributions include cost estimation and integration studies for SMRs including LWRs and HTGRs, developing and optimizing Aspen HYSYS, PEPSE, and Modelica models that couple nuclear heat to industrial processes such as hydrogen production, methanol synthesis, and oil refining. She has authored technical reports and peer‑reviewed publications on reactor integration, thermal energy systems, and MSR dynamics, and serves in leadership roles including Professional Development Chair for INL’s Early Career Researchers Association and as an inaugural board member of the INL Postdoctoral Association.
