Biography
Dr. Palash Kumar Bhowmik is a staff scientist in the reactor system design and analysis division at INL with a research focus on reactor system thermal-hydraulics design and analysis. He has industry experience with proven management skills in (a) thermal power plant (commissioning and operation), (b) TRIGA MARK-II reactor (analog-to-digital system upgradation), and (c) oil refinery (instrument, inspection, plant shutdown scheduling and management). At present, Dr. Bhowmik is mostly involved with the development of test facilities for the advanced small modular reactor (SMR) system under the U.S. DOE Advanced Reactor Demonstration Project (ARDP). In addition, he contributed 10+ R&D projects related to irradiation experiments and thermal analysis for INL’s Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) and the Transient Reactor Test (TREAT) facility. Dr. Bhowmik collaborated and proposed research projects for several multi-million USD research grants with U.S. universities, and industry partner. Among his scholarly contributions are 35+ publications in SCI journals, one book chapter, and 40+ conference papers. He has served as technical session chair and co-chair for several international conferences, and invited talks at university campuses and research institutions. Dr. Bhowmik has reviewed 140+ articles from 25+ distinguished journals, one book proposal, and 20+ grant proposals for the DOE SBIR/STTR, DOE-NEUP. Dr. Bhowmik is serving editorial roles as associate editor, guest editor, and co-editor in several referred journals. His leadership prowess is evident in his mentorship (20+) of various degree-level and age-level students like Ph.D., masters, undergraduate and high school interns/students.
