Biography

Dr. Michael Glazoff is a distinguished staff scientist at the Idaho National Laboratory. He holds doctorates in nuclear engineering (University of Idaho, 2015), materials science and engineering (University of Pennsylvania, 1995) and chemistry (Russian Academy of Sciences, 1987). His current focus is on the physical and mechanical metallurgy of zirconium alloys for nuclear applications. Additionally, his research has included multi-scale studies of material degradation processes in energy systems. Fluent in Russian, English and French, Glazoff is an interdisciplinary technical/scientific leader with more than 17 years of research and development experience at Alcoa, a Dow Jones 30 company, and at U.S. national laboratories. He has a broad and deep educational background and sustained history of achievements and problem solving at interface of chemistry, materials science, physics and mathematics. Before coming to INL in 2009, he was an adjunct professor of physics at Vanderbilt University, conducting National Science Foundation-funded research aimed at the design of novel aluminum-based catalytic materials for automotive exhaust gas treatment.
