Biography

​Masashi Shimada, Ph.D.,is a level 5 technical staff member (Distinguished Scientist) in the Fusion Safety Program at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). He is the experimental leader of Safety and Tritium Applied Research (STAR) facility at INL to support the DOE Office of Science (SC), office of Fusion Energy Science (FES) tritium and safety research.

Dr. Shimada joined INL in 2007 and has extensive experience in plasma material interactions, plasma physics and spectroscopy. He earned his Ph.D. in engineering physics from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Shimada is a member of the American Nuclear Society, has contributed to numerous publications and speaks fluent Japanese. Outside of work, he enjoys fly-fishing.
