Personal profile

Biography

Dr. Khondaker Md. Nur Alam is a postdoctoral researcher at Idaho National Laboratory, where he contributes to the Geothermal Energy and Subsurface Systems group. His work supports the development of sustainable geothermal technologies through experimental geochemistry, with a focus on subsurface fluid-rock interactions, mineral transformations, and geochemical modeling. He applies advanced analytical techniques to investigate the behavior of geologic materials under geothermal conditions, helping to improve reservoir performance and long-term energy extraction strategies. Dr. Alam brings a multidisciplinary background in environmental geochemistry, with expertise in synchrotron-based spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and aqueous chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Rutgers University–Newark, where he studied trace metal sorption dynamics and mechanisms in reducing environments, with a particular emphasis on interactions with iron minerals such as green rust. At INL, he integrates this expertise to address challenges in geothermal energy systems and contribute to the lab’s mission of advancing clean energy solutions.
