    Biography

    Kang-Ching “Jean" Chu is a staff scientist with Idaho National Laboratory's Energy Storage & Electric Transportation department and a transition team member of the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. Before joining INL in 2022, she spent five years working with the future mobility research team at Toyota Motor North America investigating societal and environmental impacts of emerging transportation technologies, including mobility services, vehicle electrification, and automated driving. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, after earning her doctorate in mechanical engineering and her M.S.E. in industrial & operations engineering from the same university. Her Ph.D. and postdoctoral research focused on modeling and optimization for various applications, including traffic flow prediction, electric vehicle power management, and sustainable production system. She studied mechanical engineering at National Taiwan University, where she earned her master's and bachelor's degree. In 2021, she received the Excellent Paper Award at the 34th World Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition. In 2019, Toyota Research Institute of North America honored her for outstanding investigation.​
