Dr. Junyung Kim is a Modeling and Simulation Professional in the department of Digital Reactor Technology and Development (C160) at INL. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a Doctor of Philosophy in nuclear engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His research interests include thermal energy system modeling, process optimization and autonomous decision making under uncertainty. At INL, he is involved in several programmatic and Laboratory Directed Research & Development (LDRD) projects related to thermal integration studies of nuclear generated heat with non-electric applications, reactor fuel reload process optimization using ML, and uncertainty quantification approach development for digital twin-based autonomous control. He has years of experience in system model development using Reactor Excursion and Leak Analysis Program 5 (RELAP-5), Dymola, and ASPEN HYSYS. He has over 30 journal and conference paper publications in thermos-dynamic system modeling, process optimization using RL and genetic algorithm, probabilistic risk analysis, and decision process using Bayesian network analysis.
