Biography

Dr. Joshua S. McNally is a staff scientist at Idaho National Laboratory engaged in the preparation and study of phosphazene compounds for a variety of applications, including carbon capture membranes and battery electrolytes. In addition, he has used ab initio computation to study linear phosphazene electrolyte molecules, as well as common lithium-ion battery electrolytes and their interaction with lithium and sodium ions. His computational efforts have also been focused on the structural properties of tertiary amines to gain insight into their function as switchable polarity solvents. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from Boston University in 2014, where his work was focused on the synthesis, characterization and computational evaluation of homogeneous dioxygen activation catalysts. He earned his B.S. in chemistry from Idaho State University in 2006, and worked as an intern and post-bachelor research associate at INL.
