Biography

Jan Vermaak has been a long-standing member of the Nuclear Engineering community with more than 16 years of experience. Jan started his career as a Mechanical Engineer at the 20 MW research reactor, SAFARI-1, operated by the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, at which time he also completed his Master’s in Nuclear Engineering. After 5 years he then moved to Texas where he was Manager of Engineering at the 1MW Texas A&M TRIGA reactor for another 4 years whilst also completing a part-time PhD in Nuclear Engineering. Thereafter, assuming a Senior Research Associate position at Texas A&M for another 4 years, before moving to Idaho.
