Biography

Jack Cavaluzzi is a postdoctoral researcher in Idaho National Laboratory's Digital Engineering department specializing in model-based design, using and developing tools like DeepLynx to create data warehouses for large systems engineering projects. He holds a doctorate, master's and bachelor's in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University. Before joining INL in January 2022 he pursued an internship with the lab's Advanced Scientific Computing Division, developing and implementing turbomachinery models in C++ for the system-level thermal-hydraulic codes RELAP-7 and THM. These models were created for use in his dissertation, and some are now used by INL customers, including NASA, BWXT, and Radiant. His work involved collaboration with neutronics analysts to produce coupled MOOSE multi-app simulations, the preliminary results of which aided BWXT in its effort to secure additional funding from the Department of Defense for the second phase of Project Pele.
