Ian joined the Analytical Laboratory at the Materials and Fuels Complex in July 2017. Previously, at Washington State University, Ian worked with Dr. Kenneth L. Nash. Ian focused on next generation separation techniques aimed at increasing the separation of trivalent lanthanides form the minor actinides by improving the aqueous phase stability of ligand actinide complexes. The work built upon the decades of work carried out at national labs and in academia that developed the PUREX, TALSPEAK, and many other solvent extraction techniques. In his undergraduate and master’s work, Ian focused on the synthesis of cisplatin analogs in the development of medicine to battle resistant cancer lines.
