Techniques used to characterize the relationship between microstructure and thermal conductivity of transuranic materials used for reactor fuel. Particularly using differential scanning calorimetry techniques for measurement of phase transformation temperatures and pulse laser flash as well as photo reflectance methods to measure thermal conductivity on the 100 micron scale.
Study of metallic fuel systems including thermal properties and microstructure with the goal to increase the basic science knowledge of mechanisms for thermal conductivity and thermodynamic behavior.
