Biography

Dr. Bikash Poudel is a Researcher in the Power and Energy Systems Department at Idaho National Laboratory, specializing in clean energy systems with a focus on nuclear and renewable energy resources for integrated energy systems (IES) and microgrid applications. He is actively involved in DOE-OE, NE, GDO, and EERE/HFTO and WPTO funded projects. His work spans developing digital twins for nuclear-renewable-storage IES, conducting feasibility analyses of nuclear-powered net-zero microgrids, modeling and evaluating resilience of integrated systems, and conducting pre-deployment feasibility analysis of microgrids in remote and island communities. His expertise includes technoeconomic analysis, dynamic process modeling, controller design, transient simulations, load flow studies, contingency analysis, optimization, resilience analysis, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. He holds a doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Tribhuvan University in Lalitpur, Nepal. His PhD research focused on the planning and operation of hybrid integrated energy systems with small modular reactors and renewable energy sources.
