Biography

Dr. Hamed is a computational scientist in the Integrated Energy and Storage Systems division at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). He earned his Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering from Purdue University with a double major in computational science and engineering. Dr. Hamed has extensive experience applying the Multiscale Multiphysics modeling and simulations approach to promote a mechanistic understanding of materials' behavior under extreme environments and analyze the interplay between underlying thermal, mechanical, and chemical processes spanning a broad range of time- and length scales. For this purpose, Dr. Hamed seeks a hybrid approach integrating physics-based methods and data-driven techniques to develop high-fidelity, experimentally validated models. Dr. Hamed's research interests include studying thermal and particle transport, radiation effects on the coevolution of microstructure and properties in nuclear materials, reactive hydrodynamic flow in a porous medium, energetic materials response to shock loading, severe plastic deformation microstructure impact on recrystallization kinetics, and the optimization of particle characteristics for an improved granular flow behavior in biomass feedstocks handling and preprocessing unit operations. Dr. Hamed has long experience developing computational models using particle and mesh-based methods implemented as  extension modules within powerful open-source software packages (such as LAMMPS, LIGHHHTS, and MOOSE framework), achieving superior efficiency on high-performance computing resources (HPC).
