Dr. Abdul Dulloo serves as Chief Scientist for the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). The MFC provides world-class expertise and facilities for handling, testing, and characterizing irradiated materials as well as advanced reactor demonstration test beds. As Chief Scientist, Dr. Dulloo’s primary role is to ensure that the MFC continues as an effective experimental research, development, and demonstration center for advanced nuclear technology. His responsibilities include strategic planning for accomplishing the MFC mission to deliver experiments, engineering and demonstrations that drive global nuclear energy solutions, engaging with prospective industry users of MFC facilities, supporting the enhancement of MFC research capabilities, advising on recruitment and retention of world class scientific and engineering personnel, and research work planning at MFC.
Prior to joining INL in 2020, he worked at the Westinghouse Electric Company for twenty-six years and held leadership positions in various areas of business development and technology development. Examples include Research and Development Director for advanced reactor development and materials research and testing, and Technical Group Manager for radiation engineering and analysis of commercial operating reactors and of new reactors (Westinghouse AP1000 and Toshiba Advanced Boiling Water Reactor). He started his career at Westinghouse as a researcher in the areas of radiation detection instrumentation and neutron-based inspection systems.
Dr. Dulloo received a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of California - Berkeley, and master’s and doctorate degrees in nuclear engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He has published over 30 technical articles and received 9 patent awards.
